SOFTBALL FINISHES 4-2 AT TURF WAR TOURNAMENT

Softball Finishes 4-2 at Turf War Tournament
The Lady Leopards split day 3 defeating Keller Fossil Ridge 18-3 and losing to Southlake Carroll 2-7. Lovejoy finished the tournament with a 4-2 record.

In game 1, Lovejoy allowed 1 run in the top of the first, but took control with a 10 run bottom of the first inning and never let up. Jade Owens pitched all 4 innings in the run rule and Holly Massey handled catching duties behind the plate. Owens allowed 1 earned run in the 4 innings of work while striking out 8 and walking 1. The Lady Leopards scored 18 runs on 17 hits and committed 1 error while Fossil Ridge scored 4 runs on 3 hits and committed 7 errors.

Offensively, Madeline Robinson went 3 for 4 with a double, 2 singles, and scored 1 run. Sydney Bardwell hit the walk off single to end the game and went 2 for 3 at the plate with 4 RBI and scored 1 run. Leah Taylor went 3 for 3 with 1 RBI, 2 runs scored, and drew 1 walk. Mackenzie Mitchell went 2 for 2 with 2 RBI, and 2 runs scored. Carlee Schaeffer went 2 for 2 with 1 RBI, 3 runs scored, and drew 2 walks. Hannah Harvey went 2 for 4 with 2 runs scored. Holly Massey went 2 for 3 with 1 RBI, 2 runs scored, and 1 hit by pitch. Jade Owens went 1 for 4 with 3 RBI. Bailey Bradshaw had 2 RBI and scored twice. Elliott Pomeroy scored 1 run.

In game 2, Lovejoy took on Carroll striking first with 1 run in the 2nd inning and 1 in the 4th inning. The Lady Leopards dominated in the first 4 innings, but gave up 4 runs in the 5th inning and 3 runs in the 6th inning to eventually lose 2-7. Bailey Bradshaw got the start in the circle with Sydney Bardwell behind the plate. Bradshaw threw 5 innings giving up 4 earned runs on 8 hits. Sydney Provence threw 1 inning giving up 2 earned runs on 2 hits.

Offensively, Carlee Schaeffer and Leah Taylor got the 2 hits for the Lady Leopards and Holly Massey and Jade Owens scored the 2 runs. Schaeffer hit 1 RBI and Owens, Schaeffer, and Emma Bittlestone all drew walks.

Defensively, Lovejoy played solid to keep the 2-0 lead most of the game. Bradshaw forced many pop ups in the outing.

Lovejoy has demonstrated significant improvement from one year ago going 0-4-1 in the same tournament in the 2019 season. The 4-2 showing this year against tough 6A competition puts the Lady Leopards in a great place nearing district play. Lovejoy will take on Royse City and Celina next week to close out preseason play. The Lady Leopards are 12-7 on the 2020 season.
