Mike Eaton

Coach Mike Eaton is currently in his 24th year of coaching in Colorado and in Texas including his time as head coach of South Grand Prairie High from 1997-2003, Centennial High School in Frisco from 2003-2012, and Lovejoy High School from 2012 to the present.  Despite starting both of the first two programs anew, he has been able to guide his teams to over 360 dual wins over this span.

 

Coach Eaton wrestled his prep career in Colorado Springs, CO followed by his collegiate career wrestling for Boston College.  At the conclusion of his college career he spent one season coaching at his alma mater in Colorado before moving to Texas.

 

Eaton’s teams have earned 16 district titles, 2 regional titles, and one state runner-up placement.  Seven of his teams have participated in the THSWCA Dual State championships with one 3rdplace finish, one 4th place finish, and one 5th place finish.

 

Eaton has coached 123 individual district champions, 150 regional champions/placers, 31 state placers, and 8 state champions over the past 20 years.  Included in this group, he has had six wrestlers earn ALL-AMERICAN status and three wrestlers elected to the Asics All-American Team.

 

Coach Eaton has also run a freestyle club.  His freestyle club has produced 70 individual state placers, 35 state champions, 17 All-Americans, and two NATIONAL CHAMPIONS over the years.  In addition, Coach Eaton has one wrestler who qualified for the 2008 U.S. Olympic Team Trials in women’s freestyle.

 

Coach Eaton has served as an officer for the Texas High School Wrestling Coaches’ Association multiple times.  First, as Vice-President from 2004-2007 and then as President from 2008-2011.  He is the current UIL liaison for the Coaches Association.

 

Coach Eaton also served as the state representative for the National Wrestling Coaches Association from 2005 - 2018.

 

Coach Eaton was elected in 2015 to the Texas High School Wrestling Hall of Fame or “Ring of Honor” for his work throughout his career as a Coach and Leader for this great sport.

 

Coach Eaton is most proud of his work in helping Texas wrestling coaches to be accepted into the Texas High School Coaches’ Association during his time as President of the wrestling coaches’ association. 

 

Coach is also proud to say that several of his former wrestlers are now coaching at the high school level and several more of his past assistants are now head coaches as well!

 

Coach Eaton is married to Charlotte.  They have three children, daughters Abby and Brindley, and son, Cameron.
