The Lovejoy Leopards record-breaking season continued Friday and Saturday at the UIL Region II-5A Track and Field Championship in Arlington. Eight Leopards will continue their season at the UIL 5A State Track and Field Meet at Mike A. Myers Stadium in Austin on May 10, 2019.
Will Muirhead qualified for the State Meet in the 3200m, winning the event with a time of 9:29.43. This will be his second trip to the State Meet, following last season’s 6th place finish in the 1600m. James Rainey will represent the Leopards in the Shot Put. Rainey won the event with a throw of 56’6? setting a new school record. The Leopards 4x200m Relay team of Hunter Smith, Jake Chamberlin, Beau Iovinelli, and Ryan Gordon qualified for the State Meet with a 2nd place finishing time of 1:26.65, a new school record. After breaking the school record in the 200m Prelims, Gordon returned to the finals breaking the record again with a 3rd place finishing time of 21.26. Gordon will be the provisional qualifier in the State Meet.
The Leopards Track and Field team finished 2nd overall with 65 total points.
